Our Founders
Preston and Julie Plentl have been married for 22 years and have 2 kids. A 17 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. They both serve on staff at

The KidMin Conundrum
Children’s Ministry Pastors and Leaders are one of the hardest roles to fill because it is one of the hardest roles to FULfill successfully, especially as a young or new leader with no prior experience. Here are a few reasons why:
- Kid ministries are the most task heavy of any other department as it operates as a church within a church mirroring a lot of the same roles and positions of the adult church. The kids are the congregation, the Kids Pastor/Leader is their Sr. Pastor, the ministry typically has its own worship team, media team, greeters, etc.
- Programming/Curriculum must be thought through and prepared weekly for multiple different age groups.
- It occupies more real estate of the church property than any other department thus more maintenance to keep up with.
- It contains the highest liability to the church, that being the safety and care of children/minors of the congregation.
- It is heavily scrutinized while having very few who are willing to help be the change they want to see.
But despite all this, to the one who is CALLED and then secondly, well EQUIPPED, it is the most rewarding vocation in ministry. That being to teach children about Jesus, in an effort to establish a faith foundation that will support them their entire life and then share it with others. This is why kidmin leaders need the proper kickstart.
Most Senior Leadership, when bringing on a new Children’s Leader, whether staff or volunteer, don’t know where to start. Often, in a panic, leadership asks a volunteer to step up to take over the kids ministry but they have little direction on where to start if at all. They just know Sunday’s coming and someone has to run the children’s ministry…the only ministry by the way that never gets cancelled under any circumstances. They don’t have time to train them, pour into them, or even understand what's facing them, and thus the average tenure of a Kidmin leader is 1-2 years. This doesn't just cost financially in time spent rehiring, but relationally too as kids and families who get attached to one leader now have to adapt to a new one, or no one, as the case may be. It costs organizationally as systems are strained and remaining staff have to pick up the pieces for the one who "just couldn't do it anymore."

My name is Preston Plentl and I am a Children's Pastor. I have been involved in full time Children's ministry for 19 years. My experience has been broad with my first 9 years at a church of 22,000+ running near 4,000 kids a weekend to the last 4 years currently at a campus of 1300 running on average 225 kids and GROWING. I love kids ministry. But that is only because I had great training, mentors, and coaches all along the way, especially in the beginning. Without it, I would have easily walked away. Everyone needs a coach and mentorship and we love to see kidmin leaders succeed by not just surviving but thriving.
That is why we started Kidmin Kickstart & Consulting. With the mission to come alongside and IGNITE Children's Pastors and Leaders. ENERGIZE their ministries. And when needed, REVIVE their calling. Through my years of experience in kidmin, along with my wife Julie Plentl, who is a systems and assimilations genius, we are confident we can catapult your kids ministry to new levels with our combined 30 years of experience.
